You must have been noticed most of my posts nowadays targeting 2011, and you are right. I am planning to get hold of the year 2011.
So In this post i will be showing you some essential tools, plugins and add-ons that your site must have. So lets go by category,
1. Social Bookmarking
Why I am having Social Bookmarking in the first place? Because they have been bringing in more traffic for past few years and I strongly believe that in 2011 you can expect some giant tides of traffic from social Networking sites. May be you should read my previous blog post Social Bookmarking and Social Networking sites for website traffic in 2011
so the tools that I recommended you to use are
- Share This or Sexy Bookmarking Plugin
- Re-Tweet
- FaceBook share button
I highly recommend the Share this button since it offers several sharing options and it will show you the total number of times the page or post is been shared through the button and the numbers can get you some credibility.
2.Statistics
Never act like a blind on your sites, you must know “How much traffic your are getting?” and “From where the traffic is generated?” for that you must have a traffic tracking plugin.
The most trusted and effective traffic tool that I have been using is
- Google Analytics
- Sitemeter
- StatCounter
- AWStats
Better you use two of them, so that you can be sure that you are getting the right diagnosis by comparing the stats. And the good part is All of these sites are free to use and most of them offers advanced features for extra cost. My favorite is Google Statistics.
3.Social Community Widgets
It’s always good to have community widgets on your site which will help you gain more friends in your community, which in turn will bring you more traffic from social networking sites. You must have a Fan Page in facebook since it’s been bringing in more traffic than any other social sites.The list goes here…

- Digg Badge
- Google Friends Connect
- My BlogLog
4.Feed Subscription
I think you know better about feed subscription options, always the best.
5.Email Subscription
6.Poll Manager
Using Polls in your site will always help you to read your readers mind, If you are using WordPress then the following plugins will do the trick,
if you want to run a poll in a non-wordpress platform or static pages, then I recommend MachForm.
7) Advertising Manager
For managing ads in your blog or website you can make use of “DFP (DoubleClick for Publishers) Small Business” This is a free hosted ad serving solution by google, Just as good as Google Analytics.
